Built over a former 18th century inn and overlooking the sea from the top of a 175 m high cliff, the El Far Hotel Restaurant enjoys a proud tradition and history. Its architecture brings to mind times long past; pilgrims in search of shelter for the night have passed through this ancient building which although now refurbished, still retains its original spirit.
The building that is now the hotel shares the heights as part of the architectural complex of Sant Sebastià de la Guarda, which also includes a 15th century watchtower and an ancient dwelling adjoining the hotel. It is a unique setting with views over a large section of the Costa Brava coast and the Mediterranean.
A photo of the hotel, watchtower and its adjoining dwelling would make for a wonderfully representative postcard of the essence of the Empordà region. Following a painstaking and respectful refurbishment and rehabilitation, El Far Hotel Restaurant has now become a first rate establishment for food and accommodation.
